Plan the roof and building work together.
Some home projects reach into the roofing system. A new skylight changes the roof opening. A plumbing vent needs a watertight detail. Damaged decking may need attention before the roofing can be completed.
Discussing those connections early helps establish the order of work and the responsibilities for each part of the project.
When coordination is useful
- Structural, dry-rot or decking repairs. Understand what must be repaired before the roof is restored or installed.
- Remodeling and additions. Consider how changes to the home affect roof edges, drainage and transitions.
- Plumbing, electrical and mechanical work. Plan for penetrations, supports and access around the roofing system.
- Skylights, solar and rooftop equipment. Coordinate openings and attachments so the roofing details can be properly completed.
